Which sensors you can connect to a vehicle or an asset
A modern tracking device can do much more than give a position. With the right sensors, the vehicle or asset tells you how it is doing.
The most common
- Fuel: tank level and refills or drains, to control consumption and detect losses.
- Temperature: probes inside the cargo or the refrigerated cabin, with alerts if it leaves the range.
- Humidity: important for food, medicine and sensitive materials.
- Weight or load: sensors that show how much a vehicle or a container carries.
- Doors and hatches: alerts every time a door opens or closes.
- Ignition and engine: whether the engine is on or off, and for how long.
- Emergency button: the driver can report a risky situation.
And any other variable
The list has no limit. If a sensor exists that measures what matters to you, it can normally be integrated: pressure, vibration, tank level, light, gases. What matters is defining which decision you will make with that data.
How the data arrives
The sensor connects to the device by cable or wirelessly (Bluetooth, LoRa), and the device sends it to the platform over the cellular network. Another article explains which one fits each case.
